Welcome to the new gateball.com.au!

This is long overdue, but I’ve finally had a chance to update gateball.com.au. I made the original version back in 2006 with the help of Mike Hunter.  At the time I knew very little about making websites, but wanted to create a site to provide information and share news amongst the small group of gateballers in Australia. Since then, lots has changed. While I still know little about making websites, the number of people playing gateball in Australia has boomed. With more people playing there were more events, more news to tell and too much work for one person to manage on a clunky old website. It was definitely time for a refresh.

There are a couple of new features of the site that I hope you’ll enjoy. Most importantly, the news section is vastly improved. It is now set up as a blog – which means it is far easier to add stories. If you would like to be a contributor to the website, let me know and I’ll add you as an author. That way you can upload your own posts (such as reports from recent events or interesting experiences overseas).

You can also comment on posts. So let us know what you think. If you had a great time at the competition or have a followup question to someone else’s post, write a comment!

You can now also add your own events to the list of upcoming events. You’ll find the ‘register an event’ page under the ‘events’ tab in the main menu. Unfortunately you can’t attach entry forms yet – for the moment if you want to include a document you will need to email it to me (via info@gateball.com.au) and I’ll attached it manually.

There is also a page (look under the ‘results’ tab) to submit event results. If you fill out the form on the page and click submit, I’ll get an email and post the results in the relevant results table. One day I’ll even work out how to make that automatic…

Finally there are a lot of largely cosmetic changes that hopefully give the website a lift – not least having Glen and Kristina as a background image!

This website is for all of us to use and contribute to, so please let me know if you have any suggestions for improvements or stories you would like to share.

In updating the website I’ve really enjoyed rereading old stories and looking at photos from past competitions. I can’t wait to watch gateball grow even more by the time the website needs another overhaul.
