The final Gateball Teams Competition in QLD for the year of 2016 was held at Caloundra on the weekend of 12th and 13th November. Seven teams played in the humid weather. Very smooth, fast lawns proved to be a bit of a challenge for most teams. It was good that two players from Rockhampton and some from Toowoomba were able to join in with the local teams to form composite teams ensuring that the maximum number of teams were able to enter. The competing teams were Bribie Island, Caloundra, Eildon, McIlwraith, Redcliffe, Southport and Toowoomba.
Glenda Windust was the Manager of the event which ran very smoothly. Her wide ranging tasks were carried out very successfully. She even managed to get us all finished for the Saturday before the summer storm unleashed quite a deluge on the lawns. The usual high-standard in catering was continued.
Undefeated in all six games Southport once again won the Tournament. The club won in 20101, 2014, 2015 and again in 2016. It’s an amazing game, Gateball, in that all ages can be united in success! The maturity and skills shown by the Captain, Christopher Wentworth, was a feature of Southport’s success. He is soon to be 16 years old. Combining with his Dad, Chris united a team of people much older than himself.
In second place was Toowoomba. McIlwraith came third.
it was very successful weekend at Caloundra. Glenda did a great job. Toowoomba always enjoys coming to Caloundra.
